In our everyday life, we consume foods that are believed to be the best and tend to avoid foods that are harmful. Well, obviously we want to eat what’s best for us. But people avoid certain essential food items due to puerile myths they tend to come across. People restrain themselves from eating stuff like chocolates because they are afraid to burst out in acne, carbohydrates because they make us fat, eating food after 7 reduces metabolism, and other silly myths. Some myths are so weird it’s surprising how people believe in them. So after hours of researching myths and facts, the top five most uncanny food myths have been listed out for you.

1. Oysters are aphrodisiac:

The first, most bizarre myth of all times- “Oysters are aphrodisiac”. This unreasonable myth is so untrue. Oysters do not have any sort of aphrodisiac potentials in them. They do not increase sexual desires. It is high time we realise that. It does have a good amount of calcium, iron and selenium along with a considerable amount of vitamins A and B12 but are very low in nutriment vitality and does not make sexual desires or sex better.

Alcohol gives you energy:

The second most bizarre myth of all times is that alcohol gives you energy. This is a complete myth. In fact, alcohol is a sedative consumer item. It does not give any sort of energy, rather decreases your muscle movement and condenses the way you act, think and speak. In short, it makes a person sleepy, inactive and worst of all, prevents a guy from maintaining a persistent erection during sex.

“Fat free” foods lead to weight loss:

This myth is the one myth that every individual believes. Well, sorry to break it to you folks but foods that are labelled “fat free” do not lead to weight loss. This is one of the most commonly believed myths in the whole world. The food items that are sold usually have fat removed from them which leaves them tasteless. And in addition to that, a bunch of complete nonsense is mixed with the product to make it edible.

Sodium has no health benefits:

The myth of sodium not being of any health benefits and that the body does not require salt every day is completely untrue. Your body requires about two hundred milligrams of salt every day. Sodium is also very necessary for your nervous system, brain and for the body to be able to intake water.

Low fat diet for kids prevents health problems:

This is a ridiculous myth. A child cannot grow without essential nutrients that are present in non-fat free foods. Even breast milk has about an average of 60% fat content. Rich and healthy nutrition is found mostly in saturated fats which help kids to grow normally. It helps them develop and grow strong.

Author’s biography:

This article was contributed by Zara, a writer from UK. Apart from article writing, she does research on ppi claims , health, tourism and technology, sports and payday loans.

By Stavros Mastrogiannis

Most of the weight loss programs I see advertised tell you how fast you can lose weight with their system. The question I have for those weight loss programs is this: What is the point of losing weight fast, if you are going to regain all the weight back and in many cases with interest? I guess it is good for business because their customers will have to come back again and again each year to lose the same weight over again.

Here are some facts you need to know about losing weight and keeping it off.

Fact #1: Your current eating and activity habits are responsible for the shape you are in today. The only way you can lose weight and get in shape permanently is to change the habits that got you there in the first place.

Fact #2: In order to lose weight fast, you must change all your bad habits at once. The problem with changing all your bad habits at once is that you will overwhelm yourself and burnout and regain all the weight back, no matter how great the results are. I have heard many people claim that once you see results you will be motivated to maintain them. That’s not true, and don’t even take my word for it. Just think about it. How many people do you know who lose weight only to gain it back? If results alone where enough to motivate them to maintain those results, than how come the vast majority of people who lose weight, gain it back?

The only way to lose weight, if you want to keep the weight off after you lose it, is to lose the weight by making all the necessary changes in your eating and activity habits slowly over time, not all at once. Yes, it may take you few extra weeks or months to lose weight, but at least you won’t have to lose the same weight again next year. Again, what is the point of losing the weight fast, only to regain it all back and in many cases with interest?

The Danbury Westerners provide more than just baseball. Their mission is “to provide Major League Baseball-supported summer professional development entertainment in the greater Danbury CT and NY area to enhance social and economic development and add value to the quality of summer living and vacationing throughout the region.”

What does that mean?

It means over 40 home and away games, plus special events, during June and July for summer baseball fun. Young men from all over the country aspiring to join major league teams play for their own professional development and our entertainment. Last year, a record nine former Westerners were selected in the 2011 MLB draft. The Westerners also sponsor a host family program so that the ball players from around the country have comfortable living arrangements during the season.

It means summer camps for kids. The Westerners provide an opportunity to work closely with the Future Stars of Major League Baseball and the Westerners’ coaches, allowing children the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of baseball and improve all aspects of their performance. Additional information is available at 21st Century Sports.

It means reaching out into the community with programs such as

- Eager Readers Achieve (“ERA”) reading program

- Free baseball clinic for 7-12 year olds

- A nutrition and exercise program for schools

- Players visiting senior citizens and patients at Danbury Hospital

It means special events for baseball fans.

On June 8, meet Jim Bouton, former New York Yankee and celebrated author along with all the Westerners players and coaches at the 2012 Celebrity Breakfast – 7:30 AM, at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury. Call 203-241-4605 for tickets.

Later that day, the Westerners celebrate Opening Day Weekend with the season opener against the Mystic Schooners. First pitch is at 6:30PM.

On June 9 in conjunction with the Danbury Museum and Historical Society, attend a very special 1886 Vintage Baseball Game during the day, followed by the continuation of Opening Day Weekend as the Westerners host the North Adams SteepleCats.

On July 18th the Westerners host their annual charity golf outing with among others, former New York Yankee All Star Tommy John and former New York Met Howard Johnson scheduled to appear. Call 203-241-4655 for additional information, including an opportunity to golf with these athletes.

So join them for the fun! June and July at Rogers Park, Danbury, game time 6:30 pm. See www.DanburyWesterners.com for all the details!
