Kids Get a Workout at Speed and Agility Training
The group of boys watched and listened intently as David Jack and Scott Lutrus took them through a speed and agility training workshop last Saturday at Connecticut Sports Arena in New Milford. Speed and agility are two key skills necessary in many sports such as football and basketball. Speed is defined as the ability to reach a high velocity of movement and agility is the ability to quickly stop, change directions and accelerate again. They were able to learn from experts in the field.
David Jack is a performance coach who has worked with top professional athletes and teams and is co-founder of “Sports and Life,” a wellness curriculum for schools. He is a national speaker and contributes tips for various health and sports magazines, TV programming and other projects related to fitness and wellness. Scott Lutrus, a Brookfield native and UCONN graduate, is currently an NFL linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts. Throughout the session, the kids learned training vocabulary and basics, practiced specific drills to help increase speed, power and agility and learned about injury prevention through techniques such prepping your body for action through stretching.
The workshop was made possible by Dr. Craig Sollose, Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician at the Connecticut Center for Healthcare in Brookfield. He has a passion for helping young athletes perform to the best of their ability by helping them with strength and conditioning. He is looking forward to planning the next session in the near future. Don’t miss it!
